4.—REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE.
Table IV contains a statement of Postal Revenue and Expenditure for the year.
The total revenue from the Postal Service in 1926 amounted to $698,606.13, an increase on the previous year of $54,394.61. The Expenditure for 1926 amounted to $263,775.04, or $32,214.49 less than in that of the previous year; the decrease is principally due to recovery of arrears of Transit Charges resulting from the Statistics taken throughout the Postal Union during the period 15th October–11th November, 1924.
The balance of Revenue over Expenditure amounted to $434,831.09.
Table V shows postage stamps, etc., of each denomination issued for sale during the years 1925 and 1926.
Table VI shows the Revenue and Expenditure of the Post Office for the ten years 1917 and 1926.
Table VII gives the Revenue from the sale of postage stamps for the years 1924, 1925, and 1926. The increase of Revenue from this source in the year 1926, as compared with that of the year 1925, was $66,331.24.
5.—MONEY ORDERS.
On account of the continued trade depression, due to adverse political conditions in China, the result of the year’s Money Order business showed a decrease of £12,667.13.2 in the value of orders issued and a slight decrease of £968.14.2 in the amount of orders paid; making a total net decrease of £13,636.7.4 on the year’s transactions.
The Telegraphic Money Orders also show a shrinkage in the volume of business transacted.
