NEW KOWLOON.
Further Reclamation at Shamshuipo. This work was referred to on page 187 of last year's Report.
The Town Planning Committee in 1922 recommended that the construction of the sea wall be abandoned and that the reclamation be extended seaward; it was then decided that the new work should be put in hand after the completion of the present contract. The work under the contract, as limited by the Town Planning Committee's recommendations, was completed in July.
Prevailing conditions do not warrant an extension of the reclamation seaward and in consequence, it has been decided to construct the sea wall on the line originally proposed.
1926 Estimates, $7,500.00
1926 Sup. Vote, $50,000.00
Total Estimates, $730,000.00
$57,500.00

Construction of Water Boat Dock at Laichikok.—This work was referred to on page 188 of last year's Report.
The construction of the dock was completed in May. The necessary water pipes and meters were fixed and the dock came into operation in June. Due, however, to the weakness of the foundations the West Wall of the dock failed to support the full pressure of the backing. With the object of restoring the stability of this wall the construction of stay piles and insertion of tie bars was put in hand during September; this work was nearing completion at the end of the year.
Building debris was deposited to the level of O.D. at the back of the East Wall of dock; thereafter, pell-mell rubble was deposited to afford protection to the wall during typhoon seas and to form a temporary roadway 15 feet wide for the purpose of operating the dock.
A reinforced concrete bridge 10 feet in width was constructed over the nullah at the North end of the dock to give convenient access to both sides.
North of the reinforced concrete bridge, the erection of quarters for meter readers and dock attendants commenced during September; this work was nearing completion at the end of the year.
