6.-CHINESE DELIVERY SECTION.

During the year this section handled 2,654,170 ordinary letters, 130,907 other articles, and 8,922 postal hong packets as against 2,816,938 ordinary letters, 123,161 other articles and 8,906 postal hong packets in 1924.

The registered articles delivered amounted to 264,697 of which 115,990 were from the United States and Canada, and 148,707 from China and other countries shewing a decrease of 20,376 as compared with 285,073 in 1924.

4,412 insured letters were dealt with as against 3,903 in 1924.

The total number of Chinese Private Boxes for which licences were issued during the year was 351, a decrease of 5 as compared with 356 in 1924.

The licences of 27 Chinese Postal Hongs were renewed; the same number as in 1924.

Labour troubles in June caused a temporary suspension of the postal delivery Service. Pending the restoration of the delivery staff to normal, a delivery Service was conducted by the postal hongs in the central districts and the District Watch Committees in the outlying districts.

7.-MISCELLANEOUS.

During the year the Parcel Agreement with Great Britain was extended to provide for the exchange of parcels up to 22 lbs. in weight. Hitherto the maximum limit of weight had been fixed at 11 lbs. Similar extensions in respect of parcels exchange with other Administrations are planned.
