REPORT OF THE GENERAL POST OFFICE, HONGKONG, FOR THE YEAR 1925.
1.- STAFF.
Two new appointments of Assistants Superintendent of Mails were created on 1st March, and Mr. T. M. Perpetuo, Inspector of Postmen, and Mr. T. Lay, Supervisor, were promoted thereto.
Mr. D. J. M. Fernandez, transferred from the Public Works Department, succeeded Mr. Perpetuo as Inspector of Postmen on 21st April.
The Subordinate Staff Establishment of this Department was increased by the appointment of one additional Class VI Shroff.
During the year changes amongst the Clerical Staff were one pensioned, one deceased and three resigned.
The general labour unrest in June affected the Postal Staff and 36 Chinese Clerks (under ten years Service) and 170 Postmen absented themselves from duty, 5 of the former and 46 of the latter returned to duty during the year. The defaulters have been replaced by 12 clerks transferred from the Imports and Exports Office and by men engaged subsequently.
2.-MAILS.
The number of mail receptacles of Hongkong origin dispatched during the year was 32,044 as compared with 37,179 in 1924—a decrease of 5,135.
Receptacles in transit which were handled numbered 121,343 as against 144,541 in 1924—a decrease of 23,198.
4,422 steamers carrying mails arrived and 6,300 left, a decrease of 1,416 and 3,002 under the previous year's figures.

3.-REGISTERED ARTICLES AND PARCELS.
The number of registered articles handled amounted to 887,661 as compared with 851,973 in 1924—an increase of 35,688.
The figures for insured articles were 15,327 and 13,906 respectively—an increase of 1,421.
