Filling in Tidal Flat and cutting down hill between Taikoktsui and Fuk Tsun Heung.—This work, referred to in paragraph 3 of Annexe L to the Report of the Director of Public Works for 1924, comprises the filling in of about 8 acres of tidal flats to the North of Laichikok Road, the construction of a sea-wall across the Northern end of the Mongkoktsui Harbour of Refuge, the reclamation of areas to the extent of approximately 58 acres behind the sea-wall, the extension of a 30 foot span outfall nullah for 1,475 feet with two reinforced concrete bridges over it designed to carry a ten-ton Road Roller and another designed for railway as well as road traffic, and contingent works.

Progress of the deposition of filling material was accelerated during the later half of the year by the opening up of a new cutting to the North of the Railway Reserve at Mongkok. That portion of the reclamation North of Ivy Street was completed as far as possible and a commencement was made to form the area to the South of M.L. 45.

The new sea-wall was completed for a distance of 947 feet except for the forming of the cement concrete cope, and the necessary building debris was deposited at the back of the rubble mound to form a seal.

The progress of the construction of the 30 foot nullah was slow, but at the end of the year all the reinforced concrete piles for the foundations to Bridge 'B' were driven, the rubble surrounding them was in place and one-third of the reinforced concrete footing formed. A length of 250 feet of nullah invert was formed between Ivy Street Bridge and Bridge 'B', and the adjoining side walls were completed for a like distance except for the cement concrete copes.

The contract is for approximately $780,000, to be completed in 7 years from 17th November, 1920.

The North West boundary for a distance of 1,870 feet is formed by the construction of one side of a nullah, built upon a rubble...
