The analyses made by the Government Analyst show that the water was of good quality throughout the year and the results obtained by bacteriological examination were also satisfactory.
The quantity of water pumped to the High Level District of the City amounted to 164.28 million gallons, equal to an average daily consumption of about 450,000 gallons, whilst 63.81 million gallons were pumped to the Hill District, giving an average daily consumption of 174,000 gallons. As compared with 1924 there was a decrease of 2.63 million gallons pumped to the High Level District and a decrease of 7.98 million gallons to the Hill District.
The grand total pumped during the year to the High Level District amounted to 228.09 million gallons as compared with 238.70 million gallons pumped during 1924, a decrease of 10.61 million gallons.
Tabulated statements containing particulars of the quantities of water pumped to the High Levels of the City and to the Hill District respectively will be found in Annexe E.
All engines, motors and station buildings have been kept in good order throughout the year.
The work of overhauling the valves on the principal mains in the City was continued during the year, the number thoroughly repaired being 330.
The number of meters in use at the end of the year amounted to 3,499 in the City and 246 in the Hill District, making a grand total of 3,745 as compared with 2,777 and 187 or a total of 2,964 at the end of 1924. These figures do not include 48 meters in use at Pokfulam.
The quantity of water supplied by meters was as follows:
