44. Resumptions for Purposes of Street Widening, etc.—The sub-department known as the Resumptions Office deals with all resumptions of properties required for street widening and other purposes, except in cases where areas of Crown Land are granted in exchange for the areas required which are dealt with by the Crown Lands Office on the basis of valuations prepared by the Resumptions Office.

In addition to the valuations and preparation of terms for the resumptions given in schedule on pages 42 to 49 the following valuations were made:-

(i) Valuations for the Estate Duty Commissioner—276 properties totalling $8,551,243.50.

(ii) Valuations for the Treasury in connection with Government Loans—57 properties totalling $612,100.00.

(iii) Valuations for Contract Securities—5 properties totalling $295,945.00.

(iv) Special valuations required by Government of sundry properties—22 properties totalling $4,097,291.00.

(v) Valuations for resumptions required in connection with proposed new lay-outs, street widenings and other road improvements not included in schedule on pages 42 to 49 but inclusive of the East Point Lay-out and certain properties affected by the Town Planning Scheme in Kowloon—81 properties totalling $1,475,562.00 and in addition $2,181,000.00 in connection with the Hankow Road Widening scheme subsequently abandoned.

(vi) Valuations for compensation for loss of rents on demolition of buildings to owners of Wongneichung Village Lots—72 properties totalling $4,983.42.

(vii) Valuations for Trade Loan Committee—510 properties totalling $12,169,631.00. The valuation work for this Committee was by no means completed at the end of the year.

(viii) Schedules of valuations for the resumption of the properties in the following villages:-

Hong Kong (Nil) Kowloon and New Territories + Kowloon City (portion of) $333,039.75 Kaulungtsai (portion of) $90,401.00 Shamshuipo (portion of) $232,386.00
