General. The work is carried on by 3 Inspectors with the assistance of 3 Sub-inspectors, and all the schools have been visited at least twice during the year. Owing to the labour troubles in June, most of the schools had an unusually early Summer Vacation, after which many did not open again, either through their teachers being unable to return or for lack of pupils. In some cases the teacher carried on without a Summer Vacation, and succeeded by this means in maintaining a comparatively regular attendance.

Normal School for Men.--The maximum enrolment was 44, and the average attendance was 26. The school has been carried on in rented premises at Wing Wah Terrace, Hospital Road, since January last, when the Man Mo Temple premises were handed back to the Confucian Society. The staff has been strengthened by the addition of one lecturer, and a Preparatory class was added in order to give the students a proper foundation before their promotion to the Normal School proper.

At the Annual Examination held in December last, 3 students sat for the Final, but all failed.

Normal School for Women.--The maximum enrolment was 49 and the average attendance, 39. The school is now housed at 7 Prince Terrace. As in the Men's School, a preparatory class was started and the staff was increased by 1 lecturer. All the 8 students in the 2nd year class were successful in the Final Examination, which reflects great credit on the Headmistress and the staff. The work of this school is most promising and expansion is expected in the near future.
