Military Expenditure exceeded the estimate by $92,436 owing to increased revenue and increase in the strength of the Volunteer Defence Corps.
Savings were effected in the Harbour Master's Department to the extent of $372,938. This was accomplished by abandoning the construction of two Patrol Launches and equipment estimated to cost $316,000 and by minor savings on the majority of the other items.
The Imports and Exports Department showed a decrease in expenditure of $173,266. Savings on most of the items contributed to this result and a reduction in the quantity of raw opium purchased accounted for $125,045 of the total decrease.
A decrease in the Police Department Expenditure of $70,614 was mainly owing to the non-completion of the New Cruising launch and to Lapsing Salaries.
The Fire Brigade Estimates were exceeded by $59,135. Expenditure of $107,360 for the construction of a new fire float was not foreseen when the estimates were framed as it had been
