During recent years in Kowloon there has been a great increase in building and houses have been built in areas which were before given over to cultivation. Owing to the very large amount of engineering work required for the training of nullahs and the abolition of mosquito-breeding places such preventive measures have not kept pace with the extension of the urban area.

Opportunities for infection with Malaria have therefore much increased in Kowloon.
