2. Including tubercular infections the total deaths amongst the Chinese from Respiratory Diseases was 6118 (5037 in 1924) giving a percentage of the total Chinese deaths of 41.5 (39.4 in 1924).

The Rate of mortality from Respiratory Diseases for the Chinese population (Excluding the New Territory except New Kowloon) for the year 1925 was 7.94 per thousand (8.6 in 1924).

Tuberculosis (all types)

Tubercular infections of the Respiratory System caused 1890 deaths in the year 1925 (1749 in 1924). Of these 31 were Non-Chinese (31 in 1924) and 1859 Chinese (1718 in 1924).

Other tubercular infections caused 401 deaths (609 in 1924) 7 of which were Non-Chinese (5 in 1924).

The total deaths from tubercular infections were therefore 2291 (2358 in 1924).

The percentage of deaths from tubercular infections on the total deaths registered was 15.28 (15.16 in 1924).

Tuberculosis according to types of infection and age groups.

For the purpose of showing the various forms of tubercular disease which caused the above mentioned deaths this infection is here divided into five types as follows:-

Type 1. Pulmonary and acute miliary tuberculosis.

Type 2. Tubercular Meningitis.

Type 3. Abdominal Tuberculosis.

Type 4. Disseminated or General Tuberculosis.

Type 5. Other Tubercular Diseases.

The following table shows the numbers of Chinese deaths from each of these types, distributed according to age groups for 1925.
