4. Seventy two (72) juveniles were admitted during the year, with sentences varying from 48 hours detention to 9 months hard labour. In 7 cases corporal punishment was awarded in addition.
5. The percentage of convicted prisoners admitted to prison with previous convictions recorded against them was 17.5 as compared with 17 for 1924.
6. There were 134 prisoners admitted who were convicted by the Police Courts in the New Territories against 147 for the previous year.
7. The following table shows the number of convictions in custody on the 31st December for the past 10 years, and the percentage of the total number of prisoners in custody to the estimated population of Hongkong :-

The reasons for this are (1) the increased number of prisoners sentenced to penal servitude (2) fewer fines paid.
8. There were 792 punishments awarded for breach of prison discipline as compared with 463 for the preceding year. Corporal punishment was inflicted in twenty two cases for prison offences.
9. Seventy (70) prisoners were whipped by order of Courts.
10. There was no escape, or attempt to escape.
11. There were 30 deaths (28 natural causes and 2 execution). Of the 28 natural causes, 6 were due to dysentery of which an outbreak occurred during the strike.
