REPORT BY SUPT. HONGKONG FIRE BRIGADE.

CALLS TO FIRES.

The number of calls to fires, or supposed fires, received during the year totalled 180, resulting in 124 fires, 19 chimney fires, 25 false alarms and 12 to collapses or landslides.

There were 5 serious fires, details of which appear in "Table IV"

Compared with the previous year (1924) there is an increase of 32 calls.

Of the false alarms; 6 were maliciously given, 6 were due to electrical faults, while 13 were given with good intent.

LIVES LOST; PERSONS INJURED, PERSONS RESCUED,

Thirteen persons lost their lives at fires or received such injuries that they subsequently succumbed.

Seven persons received minor injuries but have since recovered.

Three persons were rescued by means of Brigade Appliances.

A total of 48 persons were rescued from collapses and landslides and 81 corpses were recovered.

STAFF KILLED or INJURED IN THE EXECUTION OF DUTY.

Unfortunately a fatal accident occurred on the 31st December when a Fireman recruit, in carrying out hook-ladder drill on the drill tower at Wanchai Fire Station, fell off the ladder to the yard, a distance of about 40 ft., and succumbed, almost immediately, to the multiple injuries he received.

Other injuries to staff are summarised as follows:-

During the year there were 181 cases of illness, mostly due to bronchitis, beri-beri and malaria; & there were 3 deaths.
