# REPORT OF THE POLICE MAGISTRATES' COURTS FOR THE YEAR 1925.

(Victoria)

Mr. J. R. Wood acted as Puisne Judge from 18th April to the end of the year.

Mr. N. L. Smith acted as Second Police Magistrate from 1st January to 10th February.

Mr. S. B. B. McElderry acted as Second Police Magistrate from 10th February to 17th April and as First Police Magistrate and Coroner from 18th April to 9th November.

Mr. H. R. Butters acted as Second Police Magistrate from 18th April to 25th May.

Mr. R. A. D. Forrest acted as Second Police Magistrate from 25th May to 31st October.

Mr. R. E. Lindsell acted as Second Police Magistrate from 1st to 8th November and as First Police Magistrate from 9th November to the end of the year.

Major C. Willson, O.B.E., acted as Second Police Magistrate from 14th November to the end of the year.

(Kowloon)

Mr. E. W. Hamilton acted as Police Magistrate (Kowloon) throughout the year.

Mr. R. W. H. Maynard acted as First Clerk from 1st January to 14th February.

Mr. W. J. Lockhart Smith assumed duty as First Clerk on the 14th February and was appointed a Magistrate on the 6th July.

The number of cases was 25,989 as compared with 27,877 in 1924 and the revenue was $211,227.43 as compared with $261,372.23 in 1924.

Table I shows the total number of cases tried and the Revenue and Expenditure of the Magistracy for the years 1916-1925.

Table II shows the number of offences under various Ordinances tried during the year.

Table III gives an abstract of cases under cognizance of the Police Magistrates' Courts during the year.

Table IV gives a return of punishments awarded in respect of different classes of offences during the year.

Table V gives an abstract of cases brought under cognizance of the Police Magistrates' Courts during the last ten years.

Table VI deals with cases in connection with the Strike and Boycott determined at the Central Magistracy in 1925.

Table VII deals with similar cases determined at the Kowloon Magistracy.
