(i.) Patrol Path, Sheung Shui to the Frontier. This work was referred to in paragraph 196 (c) of last year's Report.

An extension of this path from Ta Ku Ling to Lin Ma Hang was projected and by the end of the year the survey work was in hand, but it was not found possible to proceed with the construction.

No expenditure under this head was therefore incurred during the year.

(1.) Fanling-Shataukok Road. This work was referred to in paragraph 245 of last year's Report under the heading "Works not appearing in Estimates, New Territories."

Owing to the employment of local labour this work progressed satisfactorily, but subsequently proceeded intermittently on account of the sowing and harvesting of the paddy.

By the end of the year the 1st Section, from Fanling to Au Ha Gap, was, with the exception of the bridges, almost ready to be handed over to the Roads Maintenance Office.

On the 2nd Section, however, fair progress was maintained, and, but for about 200 feet, filling has been linked up.

1924 Estimates $160,000.00 Total Estimates $168,000.00 Expenditure to 31.12.24 $65,684.68 1924 Expenditure $65,684.68

(k) Surfacing and strengthening those portions of main road running through paddy fields.—A considerable amount of work was done throughout the year, especially on that part between Castle Peak and Un Long which was rendered imperative by the new Motor Bus Service on this route.

The strengthening with granite spalls surfaced with ordinary macadam and tar painted, referred to in paragraph 196 (g) of last year's Report, was continued.

1924 Estimates $30,000.00 1924 Sup. Vote $20,000.00 Total $50,000.00 1924 Expenditure $47,398.04

(1.) General Works.—The following is a brief statement of the principal works carried out under this heading:

The formation of roads and footways in connection with the Kowloon Bay Reclamation Scheme mentioned in paragraph 196 (k) of last year's Report was continued.
