(a.) Metalling and tar painting hilly portions of Laichikok Castle Peak and Tai Po Roads.—This work was referred to in paragraph 196 (a) of last year's Report. Sections of the Coastal Road from Laichikok to Castle Peak, and from Shatin to Tai Po Causeway were channelled, surfaced with 4" macadam and tar painted.

(b.) Road from Tai Po Market to Shun Wan.—This work was referred to in paragraph 196 (b) of last year's Report.

Further improvements to the existing road to Shun Wan were considered and by the end of the year the survey was in hand but it was not possible to proceed with the construction.

No expenditure under this head was therefore incurred during the year.

(c.) Tai Po Market.—Kerbing, Channelling, &c.—Certain streets at Tai Po Market were kerbed, channelled, surfaced with ordinary macadam and tar painted, the footpaths being treated with granolithic paving.

(d.) Widening Eleven Bridges.—A contract for this work was let, and the work started towards the end of the year. Satisfactory progress was made.
