By the end of the year, the site had been cleared and the foundations to the retaining wall were in position.

Senior Officers' Quarters, Mount Gough.-This work was referred to in paragraph 94 of last year's Report.

Early in the year, the site preparation was completed, and the erection of the buildings begun. In June, plans were prepared for two garages on a piece of ground at the junction of the drive with the main road. This building is so planned that quarters for chauffeurs may at a future date be built above. The work was commenced in July under the Maintenance Contract, as the Contractors for the quarters have declined to carry out this under the same Contract.

All the work progressed satisfactorily and without delay, and at the end of the year was nearing completion.

96. Overseer's Quarters, Elliot Filter Beds.—This work was referred to in paragraph 96 of last year's Report.

Early in the year, the site preparation was completed including the necessary retaining wall along the top of the site. It was found necessary to make this wall considerably longer and higher owing to the soft nature of the soil. In levelling the site, an outcrop of first quality grey granite was struck which was quarried and used for the erection of the quarters at a slightly lower total cost than would have resulted by the use of brickwork.
