The expenditure amounted to $15,976.21.
71. Maintenance of Roads and Bridges Improvements to Roads and Bridges
Approximate mileage 30.-The roads generally were maintained in a satisfactory manner.
The following are particulars of the additional areas laid with improved surfacing during the year.-
Tarring and sanding, Sq. Yds. 67,396 2" granolithic paving slabs laid on footways, 15,67472. Maintenance of Telephones.-The lines and instruments were maintained in good order. Twelve telephones were installed in various Government Buildings.
The Kowloon underground cable scheme, 1st section, was completed.
A 100-line telephone exchange was installed at the Yaumati Police Station.
A fire alarm system was installed at the Kowloon Fire Station.
A ten-pair telephone cable was laid between Chatham Road Bridge and the Royal Observatory.
A cable testing chamber for 5 cables was built at Chatham Road.
The telephone route from Kowloon to Laichikok was transferred from the Military to the P.W.D. poles.
The wiring was improved and extra lights and fans were installed in 20 existing Government Buildings. All the existing wiring was maintained in good condition.
