4. Cost of Office.--As the Survey Office forms part of the Public Works Department and is accommodated in the same building, the charges for numerous items such as lighting, heating, electric fans, etc., cannot be stated. Omitting these items, the following is a statement of the cost:
Salaries, $122,139.30 Conveyance Allowances, 6,362.08 Wages for Coolies, 12,807.03 Land Survey Contingencies, 321.47 Transport & Travelling Expenses, 1,350.26 Survey of Colony, 4,542.68 Incidental Expenses (General), 740.85 Rent Allowances, 4,438.28 Total, $153,001.955. Trigonometrical Work.--A trigonometrical station was fixed and valued at Laichikok from the existing triangulation.
6. Topographical and Cadastral Surveys.--Several extensive surveys were carried out during the year. In Hongkong at Repulse Bay an area of about 9 acres was surveyed and plotted. On the Pokfulam Road near the Chinese Christian Cemetery an area of about 10 acres was surveyed and plotted. The portion of Stubbs Road between Magazine Gap and Peak Church was surveyed and plotted and the centre line of the Proposed Road on 200' contour at North Point was surveyed and plotted. An area on the new Road from Wong Nei Chong Gap to Repulse Bay containing about 10 acres was surveyed and plotted and an area at Jardines Lookout containing about 30 acres was also surveyed.
Contour surveys of an area of about 30 acres at Laichikok for the proposed site of Lunatic Asylum and an area at Waterloo Road containing about 7 acres for extensions to Sanitary Department were carried out.
An area of about 26 acres at Castle Peak was partly surveyed and plotted on Ordnance sheets.
Main traverses were run between Jordan Road, Tai Kok Tsui and Laichikok Trig. Stations.
Setting out work in connection with Town Planning Scheme at Cheung Sha Wan, Mong Kok Tsui, and Ho Man Tin was carried out and monuments etc., were fixed to define centre lines of proposed roads.
