246. Bathing Facilities.—These were provided at Kennedy Town, North Point, and Stonecutters Island as formerly. An additional beach was, at the request of the Kowloon Residents' Association, provided in the Railway Compound at Hunghom.
Considerable damage was done to the various sheds as a result of typhoon gales.
The Kennedy Town and Stonecutters Island sheds were accidentally burnt down, those at the former not being re-erected owing to the fire occurring shortly before the close of the season, but those at the latter were re-erected and shortly afterwards blown down by a typhoon; the beach was then closed.
The cost, inclusive of watchmen's wages, &c., but exclusive of typhoon damage, was defrayed from Class I Item 10, Miscellaneous Services, and amounted to $7,928.56.
247. Town Planning.—This was referred to in paragraph 214 of last year's Report.
In addition to the gentlemen therein mentioned, the following also served on the Committee :-
The Captain Superintendent of Police.
The Hon. Mr. Ng Hon Tze—until his demise during the year.
The Hon. Mr. Chow Shou-son's absence from the Colony.
Mr. C. R. N. Young, during Mr. W. L. Leask's absence from the Colony.
The Committee held four meetings in the early months of the year at which various matters concerning the Island of Hongkong were discussed.
