PREPARATION OF CALF LYMPH.
A large amount of lymph was issued at the rate 200 c.c. per day free of cost to the Sanitary Department during the recent small-pox epidemic.
It is anticipated that the demand for lymph will be greatly increased as the result of the decision to vaccinate emigrants.
Ninety-eight calves were vaccinated during the year as against 53 in 1922. The total number of tubes of lymph issued was 137,646 (including 10,000 tubes non-Government lymph) as against 77,519 in 1922. The value of the lymph according to Government Notification No. 380 of 1910 was $31,646 as against $24,489.50 in 1922.
PREPARATION OF ANTI-MENINGOCOCCUS SERUM.
During the year 3,340 c.c. have been issued, an increase on the previous year.
Serum in stock at present 15 litres.
PREPARATION OF CONTAGIOUS ABORTION VACCINE.
The amount of vaccine issued during 1923 was more than double that issued in 1922.
In addition, experiments were carried out for the Veterinary Surgeon at the Dairy Farm with regard to increasing the efficiency of the vaccine and consequent readjustment of doses.
ANTI-RABIC WORK.
The rabies virus is constantly maintained by passage through rabbits, and a sufficient quantity is always kept in stock to treat twenty-four cases at any time.
Number of patients treated was 26, same as in 1922.
Number of dogs examined was 16 (5 positive) as against 28 (17 positive) in 1922.
