Colonial Veterinary Surgeon.

STAFF.

Inspector W. Old was in charge at Ma Tau Kok from the beginning of the year until March 30th when he went on leave to England. Inspector G. E. Roylance then took charge until December 16th when he was relieved by Inspector Old on his return from leave.

During his leave Inspector Old passed the Examination of the Royal Sanitary Institute for Meat and Food Inspection. On December 1st Overseer Smith was sent to Ma Tau Kok in place of Foreman Hawas Khan who left the service.

At Kennedy Town Senior Inspector H. J. Knight was in charge throughout the year.

Inspector H. Coombs remained at Kennedy Town throughout the year but was temporarily transferred to Vaccination Staff, from November 1st to December 31st.

On February 21st Inspector F. Aslett joined the Depôt for duty and remained throughout the year.

Overseer Johanssen was in charge at Central and Western Markets throughout the year.

GENERAL STATISTICS.

Cattle: The total number of cattle admitted to Government Depôts for the year was 54,672 against 52,967 for 1922. In Kennedy Town 46,418 were admitted against 44,530 in 1922. In Ma Tau Kok 8,254 were admitted against 8,437 in 1922. These are the only slaughter houses for cattle in the Colony.

Pigs: The total number of pigs admitted to Kennedy Town was 301,387 against 271,186 in 1922. This includes 55,213 admitted to Kennedy Town and afterwards removed to other slaughter houses in the Colony or exported from the Colony.

Sheep and Goats: The total number admitted to Kennedy Town was 30,451 against 26,653 in 1922. As in the case of pigs this includes 11,641 admitted to Kennedy Town and afterwards removed or exported.
