REPORT ON THE FIRE APPLIANCES.
Sir,
I have the honour to report on the condition of steam and motor driven appliances of the Fire Brigade for the year ending 1922.
No. 1 Fire Float.
The hull, boilers and machinery of this craft were thoroughly overhauled during the year and all necessary repairs carried out.
This launch has been on regular duty for 12 years. Trials were taken of all running parts and all found in good order.
The recently fitted electric installation is tested at regular intervals, giving good results.
No. 2 Fire Float.
This float has been on duty for 16 years, but only during this year has steam been maintained regularly, past years the practice being to raise steam when necessary.
This craft was slipped, shaft drawn, engines and pumps opened up in order to compile repair list for annual overhaul. As far as can at present be ascertained nothing further than usual repairs will be necessary.
I am unable to make further comment until all parts are opened out at annual overhaul which takes place early next year.
Land Steamers and Aberdeen Float.
Recent tests of steam pumps at Aberdeen, Taipo, Un Long and Shankiwan have given good results.
Fire Motor Engines and Pumps.
No. 1 Tender.
During the year all running parts of this machine were overhauled.
The change gearing and radiator were found defective, other parts in good order.
Spares have been ordered to replace parts mentioned and will be fitted at an early date.
No. 2 Fire Engine.
The engine and pumps of this unit have been recently overhauled and are now in first class condition.
The remainder of the mechanical fire fighting appliances have only had repairs of a minor nature. All continue to give good service.
