Sir,—I have the honour to present my annual report on the condition of the steam driven appliances of the Fire Brigade for the year ending 31st December, 1920.

No. 1 Fire Float.

This Float has been on regular duty for 10 years. The machinery and boilers were thoroughly overhauled during the year and all necessary repairs carried out including new end plates for both boilers as recommended last year. The boilers were satisfactorily tested by 225 lbs. hydraulic pressure after repairs. Propelling engines and fire pumps are in good working order.

While undergoing overhaul the presence of white ants was detected in the wood work of the hull especially in way of the capstan and wood work underneath. All affected wood was renewed and treated with solution which has so far proved effective.

No. 2 Fire Float.

This Float has been on duty for 14 years. The Hull, Machinery and Boiler were thoroughly overhauled and all necessary repairs carried out. Top end plate of boiler was renewed as recommended last year and boiler tested by 150 lbs. hydraulic pressure. Shell plate and firebox are both reduced by corrosion and possibly further repairs will be found necessary at next overhaul.

Fire pump and propelling engine are in good working order.

Land Steamers.

No. 2 has been installed on board a float at Aberdeen.

No. 3 has been transferred from Yaumati to the new Kowloon Fire Station.

No. 4, which had been on loan to the Hongkong and Whampoa Dock Co., Ltd. since September, 1917, was handed back in July and has since been stationed at Un Long.

No. 5 at Shaukiwan.

The above are in good working order, Nos. 3 and 5 have recently been overhauled, boilers opened up, examined and tested.

R. HUSTER, Engineer, Fire Brigade.
