Mr. G. C. Moss of the London Fire Brigade was appointed as Assistant Station Officer and arrived on the 16th March.
The Superintendent Mr. E. D. C. Wolfe was on leave during the greater part of the year and Mr. P. P. J. Wodehouse, C.I.E., was Acting Superintendent.
New Quarters-Work on the new Fire Brigade Headquarters has not yet commenced, but plans are under consideration.
New Station.-A new Station was opened in Salisbury Road, Kowloon, on 1st November.
Theatre and other Duties.-Members of the Brigade were on duty at public and private entertainments during the year. The services of the Brigade were in much greater demand during the past year than has hitherto been the case owing to new Regulations for Public Entertainments passed in 1919.
Station Duties.--A continuous watch has been kept by night and by day in the telephone and engine rooms at all Stations.
Health of Staff. There have been no serious accidents among the members of the Brigade. There has also been no contagious disease among the staff. The general health of the Brigade has been satisfactory.
Station Officer Lane was in Hospital under surgical treatment from 15th December, 1920, till 30th January, 1921. Assistant Station Officer Moss was ill with pneumonia from 5th January, 1921, till 20th January, 1921.
Dismissal. One fireman was dismissed for suspected stealing at a fire.
Changes of location of Engines and other appliances.-No. 2 Steamer converted into a Fire Float and stationed at Aberdeen (completed).
No. 3 Steamer and reel and other minor equipment removed from Yaumati to Kowloon Fire Station.
No. 4 Steamer and Reel and hose removed from Hung Hom Dock to Un Long, New Territories.
No. 3 Extension ladder at Yaumati (condemned) broken up.
A Despatch Box placed at Mountain Lodge, Peak. A Manual Engine, hose and equipment was stationed at Cheung Chow.
General.-Motor Fire Engines have been in use at 20 fires. 10 fires were extinguished by the use of Hydrants only. Nos. 3 and 4 Motors were fitted with self starters. No Motor Engine has failed to start up readily during the year.
Mr. Bruce, representative of the La France Manufacturing Company of Fire Appliances on behalf of the Company examined Nos. 3 and 4 Engines (Motor) and reported them to be in good order and well maintained.
