Nervous Diseases.

The number of deaths from these during the year was 405 as compared with 434 last year. The deaths of Chinese infants from tetanus and convulsions were 182, and from meningitis 142, as compared with 172 and 17 last year.

Malaria.

The number of deaths from malaria in 1916 was 378 as compared with 366 in 1915 of which all but 9 occurred in Chinese. In a large proportion of the cases the disease was contracted outside the area of the Sanitary Board.

The following tables show the distribution of the deaths in the Colony and the police admissions to hospital for malaria during the last ten years :-
