opened up for examination, cleaned and tested. Pumps and propelling machinery were also opened up for inspection and all necessary repairs carried out.

The machinery has been regularly tested at monthly fire drills in addition to actual fire service. The Hull, Machinery and Boilers are now in good working order.

No. 2 Fire Float.

The Hull, Machinery and Boilers of this vessel were thoroughly overhauled in June, regularly tested at monthly drills and are now in good order and condition.

Motor Fire Tender.

This machine has been in service for nearly three years, has been regularly tested for efficiency and training of drivers and overhauled as found necessary. This motor has attended upwards of 40 fires during the year and owing to the alacrity with which it can reach a fire at any point of the city when the alarm is given it has been found that despatch boxes can be dispensed with on the lower levels. This is a great saving in the amount of hose and other appliances which previously had to be maintained and kept in use.

Land Steamers Nos. 2, 4 and 5 (Central Station). Land Steamer No. 3 (Yaumati Station).

These engines have all been overhauled during the year, regularly tested at monthly drills for firemen and drivers, but as reported last year they are worn out and cannot be depended upon for large fires of long duration.

All the manual pumps and gear, hose reels, extension ladders, supply carts, etc., have been kept in repair and are now in good working order.

Fire Alarms (12 Points).

The Fire Alarms are in good working order and tested daily.

The exchange telephones have proved to be very efficient.

I have, &c.,

The Hon. Mr. C. McI. MESSER,

Superintendent, Fire Brigade.

D. MACDONALD,

Engineer, Fire Brigade.
