Royal Square, Fencing in Gardens.—After much discussion as to the manner in which the areas belonging to Government should be enclosed, it was decided that iron railings and granite pillars of the same design as those surrounding the plots belonging to the Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation should be adopted. It was further decided that the area to the west of the Hongkong Club, corresponding with that occupied by the Courts of Justice, should not be enclosed with granite pillars and iron railings.

Drawings were accordingly made, quantities prepared and tenders called for for the carrying out of the necessary work. An indent
