REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT OF PRISON.

1. The number of prisoners received into prison during the year and the corresponding number for the year 1909 were as follows:

There was thus a decrease of 348 on the total number of admissions as compared with the year 1909. There was a decrease of prisoners convicted for Larceny during the year under review the number being 740 against 799 for the previous year.

2. The number of prisoners admitted to prison for offences not of a criminal nature was 2,870 made up as follows:

Debtors, 108 Convicted under the Opium Ordinance, 891 Gambling Ordinance, 670 Market Ordinance, 307 Arms Ordinance, 10 Vehicle Ordinance, 39 Sanitary Bye-laws, 52 Harbour Regulations, 108 Post Office Ordinance, 3 Police Ordinance, 4 Women and Girls Protection Ordinance, 19 Stowaway Ordinance, 123 Servants' Quarters Ordce., 12 Chinese Wines and Spirits.
