THE LIVERPOOL SCHOOL OF TROPICAL MEDICINE to COLONIAL OFFICE.

(Received November 24, 1906.)

DEAR MR. KEITH, B 10, Exchange Buildings, Liverpool, November 23, 1906.

I HAVE to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 19th, and have been mak- ing enquiries with regard to the distribution of the reports of the School to Colonies interested.

In the case of the earlier reports, copies were always sent to the Governors of the various Colonies, but I regret to find that, for some reason or other, this has not been carried out of late with regularity. I am assured, however, by the clerk who has charge of sending out the reports, that copies of all have been sent to the Principal Medical Officers of the Colonies. I personally superintend the sending out of the reports to the principal Government Departments at home.

Your suggestion that the School should supply the Tropical Diseases Research Fund Committee with sufficient copies for distribution to the Colonies contributing towards it can easily be acted upon, and I should be glad if you would kindly let me know in future how many copies you require.

Yours, &c.,

A. H. MILNE.

DEAR SIR,

No. 113.

THE ROYAL SOCIETY to COLONIAL OFFICE. (Received November 21, 1906.)

Burlington House, London, W., November 20, 1906. REPLYING to your letter of the 12th instant,* my letter of the 22nd Junet enclosed a statement and various publications dealing with the work undertaken, partly by the aid of the sum of £500 contributed from the Tropical Diseases Research Fund of the Colonial Office, during the year 1905.

Further and more complete reports on these investigations have been prepared and are now in course of publication under the direction, partly of the Crown Agents for the Colonies, and partly of the Colonial Office.

With_regard to the application of the contribution of £500 from the Tropical Diseases Research Fund of the Colonial Office for the current year, if you will refer to a letter from this Society, dated 3rd July, you will see that the Society announced its intention of applying that contribution to the prosecution of thera- peutic researches in connection with the disease of sleeping sickness. These researches will be conducted under the direction of a small Committee appointed by the Society, but, as stated in the letter of 3rd July‡ under reference, they are likely to be tedious and laborious, and there is, therefore, no report on the work done in this direction ready for presentation to the Colonial Office.

I am, &c.,

ROBT. HARRISON.
