Dr. Lewis Williams and Dr. E. L. Pope of Winnipeg have also worked for several weeks at this laboratory.
Various strains of pathogenic trypanosomata and spirochaetes are maintained at Runcorn for teaching purposes; but the whole, energies of the laboratory are devoted to pure research work. The investigations carried on in the past six months have been almost wholly on spirochaetes, of American or African origin, producing forms of relapsing fever in man.
The expenses of this new department have been very great, but it is hoped that means may be found to prevent the possibility of its usefulness being curtailed by lack of funds.
TEACHING.
The teaching work of the school is carried on by Professor Ronald Ross, Dr. J. W. W. Stephens, Mr. R. Newstead, and their assistants,, in the laboratories of the school at the University, and also by the Honorary Physicians of the Tropical Ward in the Royal Southern Hospital.
The number of students from January 1st, 1906, to May 31st, 1906, has been 22.
The number entered for the diploma in March was seven. Of these seven obtained the diploma.

The School has recently despatched to medical officers in the Congo and other parts of West Africa, over 2,000 grammes of Atoxyl. These are being used on cases of Trypanosomiasis under the auspices of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, by competent medical officers, who, when the time for pronouncing on the effects of the drug has arrived, will report direct to the School.
I should be obliged if this letter can be taken in conjunction with mine of the 9th instant.
