MEMORANDUM relating to the Value of the Exports_of British and Irish Produce and Manufactures from the United Kingdom to the Protected States of Europe, to the United States, and to Other Countries during the years 1902 and 1885*; and a com- parison with the Exports to British Possessions.
NOTE. The term Protected States includes all European States (with the exception of Turkey) and the United States.
The Total Values of the exports of British and Irish produce and manufactures to Europe (with the exception of Turkey), to the United States, and to all other Countries during the years 1902 and 1885 were as follows:-

COMPARISON WITH TRADE TO BRITISH POSSESSIONS.
The exports to British Possessions during the year 1902 amounted to £109,028,611 and during 1885 to £77,929,626, showing an increase in the period of £31,098,985, or an increase of 39.9 per cent.
The percentages of the total exports of United Kingdom produce taken by the various countries during the two years are :--

The exports to British Possessions. show the largest increase per cent. during the period, 39.9; the increase to Protected States being 27-7 per cent., and to Other Countries As regards aggregate 31.8 per cent., the total Foreign increase being 29 per cent. increases, British Possessions again lead, showing an increase of over £31,000,000, as against increases to Protected States and Other Countries of £25,500,000 and $18,600,000 respectively, or an aggregate increase to Foreign Countries of £39,202,471.
• The year 1885 is taken as it is the first year in which the Annual Statement of Tradé com- pletely discriminates under each article exports to Foreign Countries from exports to British Possessions.
