Comparing our Exports for the same two years, it appears that, excluding live animals, food and drink and raw materials (and in 1902, new ships), we exported to Foreign Countries in 1902 manufactures to the value of £132,458,892, and in 1885, to the value of £118,058,597, an increase of £14,400,295, while the increase in our Home Con- sumption of similar foreign manufactures was £41,859,103.
If we consider only the Exports to the United States and Europe exclusive of Turkey, from which our Imports of manufactures come, our Export to these countries only increased from £78,016,397 in 1885 to £82,974,971 in 1902, or less than five millions as compared with the increase of nearly 42 millions in our consumption of Foreign manufactures imported mainly from them,
