SIR,
TREASURY to COLONIAL OFFICE.
(Received February 9, 1901.)
Treasury Chambers, February 8, 1901. I HAVE laid before the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury Mr. Lucas's letter, 2885/1901, of the 29th ultimo,* relative to the incidence of the charge for the Administration of Wei-Hai-Wei for the current quarter, and their Lordships have also had before them a copy of the War Office letter to you of the 4th instant, intimating that the Secretary of State for War raises no objection to the proposal of Mr. Secretary Chamberlain that this expenditure should be borne by Army Funds.
My Lords concur in the above arrangement, the practical effect of which will be to defer until 1st April next the assumption by the Colonial Office of full financial responsibility for the transferred territory.
I am, &c.,
E. W. HAMILTON.
