be of some use to him in entering on a life which will in all probability be as new to him as it was to me, and to save him, till he gains experience, from being entirely dependent on his Senior Compounder, which is hardly consistent with his proper status. Of course, as far as his strictly medical duties are concerned, this cannot be the case, and I trust it will be allowed that I have not meddled with these, except to notice some points peculiar to these people. It is this hope which has induced me to brave all the terrors held out to him who ventures to "write a book," and from these 1 shall surely be saved by its insignificance,
