Torpedo Boat.-The shed and slip have been provided, and the store shed and workshop for the Whiteheads is ready for erection at Ripa Island. Stores are available for two more boats.

DUNEDIN.

Jaiarva Head.-Pits for three 64-pounder guns, commanding the channel, and the mine field are completed, together with the magazines, artillery stores, and barracks. Pits for two machine guns, together with the test-room and enclosing rear parapet are in hand. A 7-inch gun has been mounted on the south side, and the pit, magazines, and covering parapets, observing station; and artillery store are almost completed. A 6-inch gun-pit is being built on the sea front, together with the magazine, artillery store, observing station, and covering parapet; this is about half complete.

Forbury Head-One 7-inch gun has been mounted, and the necessary magazine, artillery store, and enclosing parapets have all been completed. The 8-inch gun-pit will be started as soon as the battery on the sand hills at the Ocean Beach is completed.

Lawyer's Head.-One 7-inch gun has been mounted, and all necessary magazines, stores, and covering parapets have been completed. The 8-inch R.B.L. gun-pit and magazine on the northern side have been commenced.

Ocean Beach Battery.-Two 6-inch gun-pits have been built, and the magazines and covering parapets are progressing rapidly. The barrack in rear is commenced, and the stockade onclosing the work is nearly completed. The battery will be finished in about four months at the present rate.

Submarine Defences.-The submarine mining station at Deborah Bay is nearly completed, and all the necessary stores, except the cable (now shipped), have been

received.

Torpedo Boat.-A slip has been provided, and spare Whiteheads are to hand for another launch, and also spar gear for a guard boat.
