(No. 274.) SIR,

I HAVE the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch "Miscel- laneous" of the 13th May,* conveying your approval of the budget of expenditure on the experimental campaign for the eradication of ankylostomiasis in Antigua.

2. The Field Director will receive a formal appointment when he arrives in Antigua. The sum of £1,152 14s. 2d. has already been received from the Inter national Health Commission, and is being accounted for in accordance with the in structions contained in Mr. Harcourt's despatch of the 25th March, 1914.†

3. I enclose copies of the rules made by the Country Health Board to carry out Dr. Rose's recommendations as regards sanitation in the villages which have been selected for special treatment. I also enclose twelve copies of Dr. Marshall's report.

RULES AND Regulations frAMED BY THE COUNTRY HEALTH BOARD UNDER ANTIGUA ORDINANCE No. 7 of 1902 (SECTION 11).

1. THE Board may by notice in writing call upon the owner (or occupier) of any house to provide privy accommodation on his premises.

2. Each privy shall be so constructed and maintained as to comply with the requirements of the Board.

3. The owner (or occupier) of all premises shall be responsible for digging pits and maintaining the same in such condition as to comply with the requirements of the Board.

4. For the purposes of these rules the requirements of the Board may be com- municated by any properly constituted officer of the Board or properly qualified medical practitioner duly authorized by the Board.

5. Every person who disobeys any notice or order duly given under these rules shall be liable on summary conviction to a penalty not exceeding forty shillings.
