CERTIFIED COPY OF A REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE PRIVY COUNCIL, APPROVED BY HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL ON THE 29TH APRIL, 1915.

THE Committee of the Privy Council have had before them a report, dated 23rd April, 1915, from the Secretary of State for External Affairs, to whom was referred a despatch from the Right Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colonies (No. 190), dated 4th March, 1915, with regard to the maintenance of the Imperial Bureau of Entomology.

The Minister states, with the concurrence of the Minister of Agriculture, that provision will be made for a grant of an annual contribution of twenty-five hundred dollars, for a further period of three years, namely, from 1916 to 1918 inclusive, pending the consideration of the question of the establishment of the Bureau on a permanent basis.

The Committee, on the recommendation of the Right Honourable the Secre- tary of State for External Affairs, advise that a copy of this minute, if approved, be forwarded to the Right Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colonies, for

All of which is respectfully submitted for approval.

Prime Minister's Office, Cape Town, 14th May, 1915. MINISTERS have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of His Excellency the Governor-General's minute No. 33/610, of the 30th ultimo, forwarding copy of a despatch from the Right Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colonies relative to the financing of the Imperial Bureau of Entomology after the end of the current year, together with copy of the report on the work of the Bureau for 1914.

In reply thereto, Ministers beg to inform His Excellency that the Government of the Union of South Africa is prepared to renew its annual contribution of £350 towards the maintenance of the Bureau for a further period of three years from 1916 inclusive.

The Legislative Council will in due course be asked to approve of the necessary provision being made in the Estimates for 1916-17 and the two following financial years.

In reply to your despatch "Miscellaneous," of the 3rd March last,* I have the honour to inform you that the Government of the Federated Malay States agrees to renew its contribution of £100 per annum to the Imperial Bureau of Entomology for a further period of three years, namely, from 1916 to 1918.

2. In this connexion I may say that the Federated Malay States Government is now undertaking the entire cost of the employment of Dr. C. Strickland as Travelling Medical Entomologist. The incidence of this cost was the subject of your despatch "Miscellaneous" of the 7th February, 1913.†
