THE HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR NEW ZEALAND to COLONIAL OFFICE. (Received 7th January, 1915.)
SIR,
[Copy to Imperial Bureau of Entomology, 14th January, 1915. L.F.]
[Answered by No. 3.]
Westminster Chambers, 13, Victoria Street,
London, S.W., 6th January, 1915. Proposed Conference of Entomologists and Mycologists, London, 1915.
I AM directed by the High Commissioner to state that he has received a communication from the Prime Minister of New Zealand in regard to a proposed Conference of Official Entomologists and Mycologists in London about July next, and stating that His Excellency the Governor has been informed that the proposed Conference will probably be abandoned or postponed owing to the war, and asking that information be obtained as to what are the prospects in regard to the abandon- ment or postponement of this Conference. The High Commissioner would, there- fore, be extremely obliged if you could inform him on this point, in order that he may advise his Government in good time.
The letter adds that, if the Conference takes place, New Zealand will probably be represented by an officer of the Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce; also, in view of the fact that in the Dominion the same officers under- take entomological and mycological duties, New Zealand is in favour of the sugges tion that mycologists, as well as entomologists, should attend the Conference. The officer who would probably be deputed to attend the Conference is Mr. A. H. Cockayne, Biologist of the Department.
I am, &c..
C. WRAY PALLISER,
Secretary to the Department."
