(i) If the officer has completed not less than 120 months' gross service he may be granted a compensatory pension of so many 720ths of his salary, but not ex- ceeding 60/720ths in all, as there are complete periods of two months in the period of his service counting for pension under the Minutes on Pensions subsequent to the completion of 120 months' gross service.

(ii) If the officer has not completed 120 months' gross service, he may be granted a compensatory pension of so many 720ths of his salary as there are complete periods of two months in the period of his service counting for pension under the Minutes on Pensions.

Provided that the number of 720ths of comprising the compensatory salary pension awarded under (i) or (ii) above shall in no case exceed the number of months in the period by which the officer's age at retirement falls short of 55.

visions :--

(a) Where the age of the officer at retirement is neither less nor more than 40 years, he may receive an addi- tion of 90/720ths of his salary, pro- vided that, if he has served for less than 15 years, the addition otherwise allowable shall be reduced by so many 720ths of his salary as there are com plete periods of two months in the period by which his actual length of service falls short of 15 years.

(b) Where the age of an officer at lie retirement is more than 40 years, may receive an addition of so many 720ths of his salary as there are com- plete periods of two months in the period by which his age at retirement falls short of 55, provided that, if on the completion of the 40th year of his age he had served for less than 15 years, the addition otherwise allowable shall be reduced by so many 720ths as there are complete periods of two months in the period by which his actual length of service at that time fell short of 15 years.

(c) Where the age of an officer at retirement is less than 40 years, he may receive an addition of so many 720ths of his salary as there are com- plete periods of two months in the period which he has served subsequent to the completion of the 25th year of his age.

(ii) A Public Servant retiring in the circumstances contemplated by these regulations may, however, elect to re- ceive, in lieu of an award calculated in accordance with Sub-section (i) of this section, an award which shall consist of the award which would have been grant- able under the Minutes on Pensions if his retirement had been necessitated by ill- ness, together with a compensatory pen- sion calculated in accordance with the following provisions :-

3 The special additions to pension grantable under Section 26 of the Minutes on Pensions to certain classes of officers shall not be included in pensions granted under these regulations, but if in any particular case the total pension grantable under the combined operation of Sections 2 and 26 of the Minutes on Pensions to a Public Servant who has completed not less than 120 months' gross service is greater that the total pension grantable under these regulations, the former pension may be awarded.

4. For the purpose of these regulations the service of an officer transferred to the

public service of this Colony from other service under the Crown shall include such other service if it is continuous with his service under the Government of Ceylon.

5. Any period during which an officer absent on leave from the Colony has, with the consent of the Governor or the Secre- tary of State, served with His Majesty's armed forces during the War of 1914-1921, or in any other capacity connected with the state of war, may be counted as service on full pay for the purpose of these regula-

tions.

6. If any officer of the Ceylon Civil Ser- vice who received his first appointment under the post-war reconstruction scheme after serving with His Majesty's armed forces during the war of 1914-1921 shall exercise the option of premature retire- ment, the period intervening between the completion of the 23rd year of his age or the date on which he began his war service (whichever is later) and the date on which he received his appointment as a Cadet shall be counted as leave on full pay for the pur- pose of computing the total pension grant- able under these regulations.
