The above orders averaged about 60 items.

Time taken for Jamaica Requisition 128 (ordered through Crown Agents). Order received.-19th July, 1901.

Patterns received.-1st August, 1901. Estimate consisted of 171 items, costs for which had to be prepared; most of the items had to be manufactured. Estimate sent to the Crown Agents 8th August, 1901, and order was then put in hand (there were very few sundries in the order).

Time taken. Order put in hand 8th August, 1901. Majority of goods shipped 30th September, 1901. Completion of shipment 11th October, with the exception of 500 way-bill books (remainder of the 1,500 books ordered) which were shipped on the 29th October, 1901.

Total amount of order.-£795.

JAMAICA.

Case (1).-The Colonial Government indented for certain iron and steel work, to be landed in Jamaica at an estimated cost of £830. Several firms whom we invited to tender declined to do so, and the lowest tender put in was £909, and the time required was 40 weeks. As the Colonial estimate was exceeded, and the time was a long one, we did not accept the tender, but referred back to the Colony. We
