(2) prevents or impedes any person endeavouring to save the life of a person so situated;

is liable to penal servitude for life.

CHAPTER XVII.-OFFENCES AGAINST WOMEN.

183.—Carnal Knowledge,

Carnal knowledge shall be deemed to take place on penetration.

A boy under fourteen years of age shall be conclusively presumed to be incapable of having carnal knowledge.

184.-Definition of Rape.

Rape is the act of a man having carnal knowledge without her consent of a woman who is not his wife,

Consent is such consent as is mentioned in Article 62 except in so far as it refers to intoxication,

185.-Punishment for Rape.

Any person who commits rape is liable to penal servitude for life.

186.—Punishment for attempted Rape.

Any person who attempts to commit rape is guilty of felony.

187.-Carnal Knowledge of a Girl under Troelve

Any person who has carnal knowledge of a girl under years of age is liable to penal servitude for life, and to be flogged, whether he believed that she was under, twelve years of age or not.

Any person who attempts to have carnal knowledge of a girl under twelve years of age is guilty of a misdemeanour, and is liable to be flogged, whether he believed that the girl was under twelve years of age or not.

A prosecution for an offence under this section must be begun within three months after the offence is committed.

188.—Carnal Knowledge of a Girl under Fourteen.

provided that it shall be a defence to a charge of an offence under this section to prove that the person charged believed on reasonable grounds that the girl was of or above the age of fourteen years.

189.-Carnal Knowledge of an Idiot.

Any person who has or attempts to have carnal knowledge of a woman or girl, whom he knows to be an idiot or imbecile is guilty of a misdemeanour.
