I HAVE the honour to transmit herewith copy of a note I have received from the Inspector-General of Police and Commandant of the Local Forces in this island, giving a list of ten officers and eighty-five non-commissioned officers and men who bave volun- teered for active service in South Africa.

Though it is no doubt" very improbable," as General Sir Francis Scott puts it, that their service can be accepted, I am sure you will appreciate the patriotic loyalty which has called forth from Trinidadians the desire to be actively engaged in Her Majesty's arnrics at the present juncture.
