"This Committee have had before them a reference from the Secretary of State for the Colonies asking for their opinion as to the probable effect upon the revenue of the Pacific Cable of the proposed agreement between the Eastern Telegraph Company and the Australian Colonies for a cable between the Cape and
Australia.
•
The Committee have very carefully considered the said agreement, and they are unanimously of opinion that its effect must be to injure very materially the revenue of the Pacific Cable."
