Government House, Mauritius, July 14, 1904. WITH reference to your telegraphic despatch of the 12th May last, approving of the postponement of the repayment of the instalments due by planters under the Advances-in-Aid Loan Ordinance, No. 43, of 1902, I have the honour to transmit, herewith, a copy of a report from the Acting Receiver-General, showing the amount received from planters.
2. On the receipt of this report I telegraphed to you, on the 12th instant,t requesting that the Crown Agents be informed that they should draw at once for the amount repaid by the planters, viz., £15,056.
3. In connection with this matter I beg to refer you to my despatch No. 249,

I HAVE the honour to transmit the enclosed report from the Head Accountant showing that I have received from the planters under Ordinance 43 of 1902 (Advances- in-Aid) the sum of Rs. 474,100.13c.
That amount includes portion of the principal refunded by planters (£15,349 38. 2d.) or Rs. 230,237.31, and the interest paid by them Rs. 243,862.82; Rs. 474,100.13. 2. The amount of £15,055 14s. 34d. at A (with pencil§) of the Head Accountant's report may be remitted to the Crown Agents with a view to allow them to pay a portion of the debt falling due on the 1st August next.
3. This will reduce the total debt from £200,000 to £185,000 (no account being taken of the £55 48. 34d., which are insufficient to redeem a debenture, and which may be utilized by the Crown Agents as they may consider best)—the interest, there- fore, will be £7,400 instead of £8,000 hereafter.
4. Out of the interest mentioned at paragraph 1, viz., Rs. 243,882.82, the amount of Rs. 108,853.80, representing the interest paid to debenture holders in 1903-04, and charged to the expenditure of that year, should be accounted for on 30th June, 1904; and the sum of Rs. 110,000 representing interest to be paid in England in 1904-05 to the holders of debentures for £185,000 should be carried to the Revenue of 1904-05 under the same head and sub-head of revenue, that is 8/4.
5. Finally, the balance of Rs. 24,209.02 representing the profit on the 1st instal- ment of the planters (as is explained by the Head Accountant) should also be carried
to revenue.
6. As soon as the "Tram Loan" transactions are adjusted (very shortly) I shall report further, and most likely I think that we may be in a position to ask the Crown Agents to draw on us for Rs. 600,000.
