States that the rate at which the Mauritius 4 per cent. Bonds can be renewed or replaced cannot be stated at present; doubts whether it will be possible to renew them, States, in reply to No. 165, that the rate at which the Mauritius 4 per cent. Bonds can be renewed or replaced depends on the future state of the market, and that the Crown Agents are deferring action pending the arrival of the Ordinance.

Asks for further information as to the special allowances received by Mr. de Coriolis for railway surveys; agrees with the proposal to defer further consideration of the whole question of branch railways until after the arrival of Sir C. Boyle: enquires whether any arrangements have yet been made for assisting the small planters.

Reports on cost of railway extensions paid from Revenue; points out that they constitute a valuable asset.

Telegram (Rec, June 23) Reports rejection by his casting vote, of a proposal in Council by Mr. Leclezio, to defray certain expenditure by a loan against his (the Acting Gover- nor's) statement that the deficit in the coming year must be met by extra taxation; the unofficial members desire the decision of the Secretary of State on the conflicting policies.
