1898. February 2 Encloses copy of No. 1, and inquires whether Lord Salisbury is willing that it should be applied to the Pro- tectorates under the administration of the Foreign Office,

States that the question of improving the Medical Service of the British Colonies in West Africa has been re- ceiving Mr. Chamberlain's serious consideration, and asks for the assist- ance of the Society.

Instructs them to procure, for the use of the medical advisers to the Colonial Office, a book in which the notes of physical examinations of candidates made by them shall in future be kept.

Conveys suggestions made by Dr. Man- Bon for the improvement of the form of the medical reports sent home from the Colonies, and requests that he will form a small committee of experienced colonial medical officers for the pur- pose of devising a model form of report.

Transmits draft of a circular to the General Medical Council and the lead- ing British Medical Schools, urging the desirability of extending the teaching of tropical medicine in this country.
