(c) Barbados.-Chief Justice and President of the Windward Islands Court of Appeal, £1,200; Attorney-General, £750; Master in Chancery, £750); Judges of the Assistant Court of Appeal (3), £450. There are also a Solicitor-General (P'.P.) and a King's Solicitor and Proctor paid by fees; a Registrar, £400, and a Deputy Registrar, £200; an Official Assignee, fees (£387 in 1900); a Judge of the Petty Debt Court, £400; Police Magistrates (2) for Bridgetown, £400; (5) for country districts, 2 at £350 and 3 at £300. The minor appointments are usually given to local candidates.
(f) Trinidad and Tobago.-Chief Justice, £1,500; Puisne Judges (2), £1,000; Attorney-General, £1,300 and £300 for clerical assistance; Solicitor-General, £200, P.P., and fees (£157 10s,) and £150 for clerical assistance; Registrar of the Supreme Court, £750; Crown Solicitor, £800; Stipendiary Justices (9) from £200 ( Tuev) to £750 (Port of Spain). Some of the magistracies are held by the Wardens, who are district executive officers, and most of them are filled by local candi- dates; but an occasional vacancy occurs for a barrister from home, or from the Colonial Service.
(g) British Guiana.--Chief Justice, £1,800; Senior Puisne Judge, £1,300; Junior Puisne Judge, £1,000; Attorney- General, £1,350 to £1,500; Solicitor-General, £500, P.P.; Police Magistrate (Georgetown), £800; Assistant ditto, £700; Registrar and Clerk of the Supreme Courts (Demerara and Essequibo), £833 6s. 8d. Crown Solicitor, £300, P.P.; Stipendiary Magistrates; 1 at £750, 2 at £700, 1 at £600 to £700, 2 at £600, 1 at £500, 2 at £400: all with travelling allowances of £100 to £1.50, according to extent of district; Sworn Clerks and Notaries Public (3), £400 (appointed locally). The magistrates are mainly appointed from the Colonial Service and from home but appointments are also given occasionally to local candidates who have been Clerks of Magistrates' Courts or have held other appointments in the Colony.
(k) Jamaira and Turks Islands,--Chief Justice and Keeper of the Records, £2,000 and travelling allowance; First Puisne Judge, £1,200 and travelling allowance: Second Puisne Julge, Attorney-General. £1,000 £1,000 and travelling allowance. with travelling expenses and fees; Assistant to Attorney- General, £250; Crown Solicitor, £820, P.P.; Registrar of the Supreme Court, £600, with fees; Administrator-General aml Trustee in Bankruptcy, £800 (including salary as Commissioner of Stamps); Deputy Keeper of the Records, £500; Resident Magistrates (15), from £500 ( Trelawny) to £800 (Kingston) with travelling allowances from £80 to £130, according to locality, except at Kingston. The magistrates are mainly appointed from the Colonial Service and from home, but appointments are occa- sionally given to local candidates who have been Clerks of Magistrates' Courts or Solicitors in the Colony.

(c) Gold Const.-Chief Justice, £1,500, duty allowance, £300: First Puisne Judge, £1,000, duty allowance, £200; Second Puisne Judge, £800, duty allowance, £160; Third Puisne Judge, £800; Attorney-General, £1,000, duty allowance, £200: Solicitor-General, £600, duty allowance, £120; Chief Registrar of Supreme Court, £400, duty allowance £0; *Provincial Commissioners, £650, duty allowance, £130; "District Com- missioners, £400, duty allowance, £80. In Ashanti and Northern Territories: Provincial Commissioners, £700, duty allowance, £140; Cantonment Magistrate, £500, duty allowance, £100 District Commissioners, £400, duty allowance, £80. The duty allowance is drawn in each case by the person actually discharging the duties of the office, whether he is the holder of the appointment or not.
(dy Southern Nigeria.-Chief Justice, £1,500, with duty pay £300; three Puisne Judges, £1,000 per annum; three Police Magistrates, £500 to £600, with duty pay, £100; Attorney- treneral, £1,100, with duty pay, £220; Solicitor-General, £700 to £900, with duty pay, £140.
(e) Northern Nigeria.-Chief Justice, £1,000 to £1,200, acting allowance, £100; Attorney-General, £500 to £600, duty allowance, £60; Solicitor-General, £400 to £500.
In the West African Dependencies, quarters, free of rent (but not of rates and similar outgoings) for single men are provided, or an allowance is given in some cases in lieu of quarters.
EAST AFRICAN.
(a) East Africa Protectorate.-Principal Judge, £900; Second Judge, £700; Third Judge, £600; four Magistrates, £400; Crown Advocate, £500 by £25 to £600; Assistant Crown Advocate, £450.
