Legal Appointments are from time to time filled up by the Secretary of State in the following Colonies and Protectorates:-

WEST INDIAN.

Bermuda, Bahamas, Leeward Islands, Windward Islands, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, British Guiana, Jamaica and Turks Islands, British Honduras,

WEST AFRICAN.

Gambia, Sierra Leone, Gold Coast, Southern Nigeria, Northern Nigeria.

EAST AFRICAN.

East Africa, Uganda, and Nyusuland Protectorates.

EASTERN.

Mauritius, Seychelles, Ceylon, Hong Kong, Straits Settlements, Federated Malay States.

MEDITERRANEAN.

Gibraltar, Malta, Cyprus,

MISCELLANEOUS,

Fiji, Falkland Islands, St. Helena.

In Ceylon, Hong Kong, and the Straits Settlements (includ- ing the Federated Malay States), all except the more important vacancies are filled from the Cadet Service, entrance to which is by competitive examination, held at the same time, and under the same conditions, as that for the Home Civil Service, and the Indian Civil Service. Enquiries should be addressed to the Civil Service Commissioners.

In Mauritius, most of the legal officials are local barristers and solicitors.
