SIR WILLIAM LEISHMAN.
SIR JOHN MCFADYEAN.
SIR STEWART STOCKMAN,
MR. W. C. HANKINSON (Secretary).
DR. A. G. Bagshawe, Director of the Bureau, also attended.
1. The Minutes of the Thirty-First Meeting of the Committee were confirmed. 2. The Committee then received and considered an estimate of revenue and expenditure for the financial year 1923-1924 (copy attached). The Committee approved the estimate.
3. The Committee then proceeded to receive and discuss the report of the sub-committee which was appointed at the thirty-first Meeting to review the financial position of the Bureau. Sir Havelock Charles said that he thought the Government of India might be approached with a request that they should reconsider their decision to reduce their contribution. The Committee decided that this should be done.
As regards the proposals for the superannuation of the staff, Dr. Bagshawe reported that he had applied for the admission of the Bureau to the Federated Superannuation System for Universities, and that the matter was still under con- sideration. The Committee approved the recommendation of the sub-Committee with regard to the Secretary and the two Assistant Secretaries, provided that the reply from the Council of the Federated Superannuation System for Universities was satisfactory.
Dr. Bagshawe then retired, and the Committee considered the question of the provision to be made for him. After some discussion it was decided that the Secretary should go into the matter with the Crown Agents for the Colonies, and that the matter should then be further considered.
Dr. Bagshawe was recalled and informed that the matter was receiving the sympathetic consideration of the Committee, hut that at the moment it was not possible to make any definite statement.
4. The Committee approved the proposal that a third lady assistant should be appointed from 1st April, 1928, at a salary not exceeding £150 a year, and gave covering approval for the temporary employment of a typist from 15th January, 1923, at a salary of £2 10s.
